The reason behind why is spy more popular than voo is because of performance comparison. While spy has performance rate of around 20.26% and voo has performance aroun 20%. The annual return of spy is 12.39% whereas voo has 12.49%. The sharpe ratio of spy is 0.67 and voo as 1.
If you are an active trader or an options trader, you might prefer SPY over VOO because of its higher liquidity and lower trading costs.
