The Success of Failure

The Success of Failure is an exploration of sketches and drafts of work that didn’t quite go as expected, and how this led to interesting creative discoveries.

“Failures are very important – they mean a great deal to me … I always question artists who are successful in whatever they do – I think what that means is that they’re repeating themselves and not taking enough risks.

If you experiment, you have to fail. By definition, experimenting means going to territory where you’ve never been, where failure is very possible.” (Marina Abramović, 2017)

Failure is often hidden from view or not discussed, made visible or acknowledged. This exhibition focuses on failure; celebrating the fact that failure isn’t the be all and end all, it is just a part of the artistic process. It is about experimenting and taking risks, deliberate failure is a creative and curious orientation of learning.

This exhibition is composed of work from five artists that explore the meaning of failure through a variety of mediums and techniques.
