Plymouth Art Weekender is looking for Event Assistants!
The 2018 Weekender will be held on 28th / 29th / 30th September
Plymouth Art Weekender is an ambitious three-day event that takes place annually across the city. The Weekender confidently celebrates Plymouth, its people and the visual arts, promoting the city as an exciting contemporary art destination. The Weekender showcases a diverse range of exhibitions and events for all ages, throughout the city, by local, national and international artists.
Event Assistants will act as ambassadors for the Weekender as a whole; assisting audience members to find and engage with events and projects across the City. They will support a volunteer team at key locations, including; Armada Way, The Athenaeum and Plymouth School of Creative Arts. As well as, assisting with the distribution of promotional and signage materials to artist organisers at venues across the City Centre.
Event Assistants will take a proactive approach to gathering evaluation materials for the Weekender by; approaching audience members for specific feedback; noting down informal conversations with audience members; and collecting statistical data.
They may also be asked to assist Weekender commissioned artists with the set up/clear up and stewarding of artworks/events. There are 2 positions available for the three days: between 10.00 – 18.00 Friday, and 11.00 – 18.00 on Saturday & Sunday. There is also 1 role which is for Saturday 11.00 – 18.00 only, please note that this role is based outside and will include providing support for an artist-led drop in workshop.
All the roles are freelance and paid at a rate of £10/hr.
All the successful candidates will:
– Have good knowledge of and enthusiasm for visual arts in Plymouth
– Know the city and how to get around
– Be friendly, confident communicators with experience in public facing roles
– Be responsible individuals who are calm under pressure
– Be happy to pitch in and do what is needed to ensure the event is a success
– Make an effort to know as much as possible about the range of Weekender 2018
Event Assistants will be invited to attend a one-day training session and introduction to the Weekender on18th September TBC. There will also be an ‘on site’ induction at 10am on Friday 28th for all roles beginning that day.
