Ballard Central – Ghost Swimming Pool Composition: Mo Bottomley

Ballard Central – Ghost Swimming Pool Composition
Mo Bottomley

Assorted outdoor locations between the Athenaeum and KARST gallery
Start 4pm Plymouth Athenaeum
The remnants of Plymouth’s Ballard Swimming Pool, the former television studios of Westward Television / TSW, the Millbay train sidings, and the Union Street railway arches, are on a direct path between the Athenaeum and KARST gallery. This path was also walked most evenings by the artist in both 1981-82 and 2015-16.
Mo Bottomley will be lead a psychogeographic walk to map the locations of events, constructions, demolitions and broadcasts at these locations and investigate their meanings in a post-Ballardian city. Road-surface mnemonics, sonic nostalgia, and close observation of double yellow lines provide a live and accumulated notation. The resulting musical score will be performed by Spoils Collective en route.
