Isolated images selected from a thousand internet plateaux, just visible beneath multiple brush strokes show a black athlete, a naked woman, and most intriguingly, a grandmother pulling a grandchild’s tooth in these small oil paintings saturated with slightly nebulous meaning and associated with pain. In this cave-like studio they are appear alongside abstract sculptures exploring positive and negative shapes, and a delicate geometric pencil diagram, resembling a tantric meditation aid. These artists chose to work in monochrome to unify their very different practises, and explain the title ‘Gestalt’ as a search for the space between things. They are clearly ambitious and could explore their ideas more elaborately, but it is definitely a useful partnership and may develop in the future.
