Sound Observations is an activity guide book featuring site-specific observation activities in locations across Plymouth, all with views of Plymouth Sound. Plymouth is a multifaceted city with the coast path bordering the south, Dartmoor on the northern edges and a variety of grey and green spaces within walking distance of the city centre. We spend a lot of time moving through these places yet often don’t take time to observe our surroundings. The activities in Sound Observations borrow from meditation techniques to heighten sensory perceptions of the environment using vision and sound. The book will provide space for the reader to become an active participant and create their own artistic responses to the spaces around them. A series of sound recordings designed to enhance and extend aural perception of selected locations will be also be available on the project website. Visitors are invited to complete Sound Observations as a walk in itself, or to break up the experience into separate activities in between visiting other events in the city.
There will be 1000 free copies of Sound Observations available to collect from various locations across Plymouth.
Sound Observations is supported by Grants for the Arts from Arts Council England.
