The City of Plymouth has been in a state of redevelopment since the end of WWII. Having survived the Blitz relatively intact, Drake Circus, Plymouth’s main shopping mall, was then demolished and rebuilt twice in 40 years. COMMIT THIS TO MEMORY captures the city’s ever-changing image through the eyes of public bystanders.
Over the course of the weekend, visitors can find COMMIT THIS TO MEMORY stickers across the city, particularly nearby buildings and sites considered to be ‘At Risk’ – whether this is as a result of building redundancy, lack of ownership, location or cost of repair – many of the buildings featuring on Plymouth’s most recent Buildings At Risk register.
This is an opportunity for local people to be a part of the on-going construction conversation and talk about how they remember particular sites, even informing development decisions for the future. The project is about the here and the now, engagement in the present and the infra-ordinary – the little things that go unnoticed. Scan the QR codes on the stickers to find out more about the sites included in the project and use the hash tag #cttmplymouth to get involved on Instagram and Twitter. Follow the project @cttmplymouth.
