Event Details

Entitled A Good Neighbour, the 15th Istanbul Biennial, curated by artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset, deals with notions of ‘home’, exploring how the private sphere has changed over past decades. The Biennial will approach the idea of a neighbourhood as a micro-universe, exemplifying some of the challenges that are faced in terms of co-existence today. Against this backdrop, an international billboard project has been initiated, sharing the theme of ‘a good neighbour’ with different cities around the world.

A Good Neighbour in Plymouth is presented by the Atlantic Project, in collaboration with the Istanbul Biennial and Urban Splash, including a selection of photographs by Lukas Wassmann, along with questions asking what makes a good neighbour. A series of related performances and events will take place during the Weekender, initiated by Beyond Face and Fotonow with Devon & Cornwall Refugee Support.

The Atlantic Project is a pilot for a new international festival of contemporary art, taking place in Plymouth from September 2018 in the lead-up to Mayflower 400. Directed by Tom Trevor, the project has been developed as a partnership between the History Centre and Plymouth University, hosted by Peninsula Arts, as part of the Horizon programme, led by Plymouth Culture.

Exhibition runs 22/23/24 September
